  Operations

Food Corporation of India operates through a country-wide network with its zonal and regional and district offices. The operations are :

1. Procurement Management : To stabilize the Green Revolution, the Government of India introduced the price support scheme to the farmers. The minimum price is announced well before the commencement of the crop seasons.
In West Bengal rice is procured both by FCI and the State Government against the targets fixed by the Ministry.
In the Kharif year 2006-06 FCI procured lakh tonnes and the State government procured lakh tonnes against the targets of and respectively.


2. Storage Management : In West Bengal region FCI has a network of depots strategically located all over the state.


3. Scientific Preservation : West Bengal region has an extensive stock preservation system. Competent Quality Control officers are at the helm of the affairs. They ensure that prophylactic and curative treatment are carried out in time. The stocks are regularly fumigated and aerated.


4. Distribution Management : Every Indian is to be assured of a steady availability of food grains. To achieve this goal FCI, through a well-knitted system and in close co-ordination with the State Government id maintaining availibility of food grains to the people of the State.
